Thick Turret compatibility guide: A–E stations and the machines covered
How the Thick Turret system maps onto Amada, Euromac, Prima Power, LVD and other punch presses — A, B, C, D and E stations, maximum diameters, and which Mate system to choose.
If you run a CNC punch press with a thick turret and you are looking for compatible tooling, the first thing to establish is not the make of the machine but the turret standard and the station you are working on. This guide explains the Thick Turret system as it is defined in the Mate Precision Technologies catalogs, and shows which machines it covers.
What “Thick Turret” means
Thick Turret is a turret standard using thick tool holders, used by most European and Asian punch presses. Unlike the Trumpf system — which uses a different cartridge geometry — Thick Turret tooling is organized on standardized stations, identified by the letters A through E. The letter of the station determines the maximum tool diameter you can fit. (See the full definition in the Lang & Sin technical glossary.)

The A–E stations and their maximum diameters
The station defines the maximum diameter of the punch and the die. The table below shows the correspondence used in the Thick Turret system:

Stations B, C, D and E are confirmed in the Mate catalog as standard tool holder sizes (1¼″ B, 2″ C, 3½″ D and 4½″ E). Station A is the small-diameter station of the system.
Which Mate system to choose for Thick Turret
Within the Thick Turret standard, Mate offers several tooling systems, differing in construction and ease of operation:

The Amada special case: the AMX™ system
For Amada machines with the ABS clamping system, Mate offers the AMX™ series, designed for full compatibility with Amada ABS assemblies and tool holders. If your Amada machine uses ABS, that is the series to work from.

Mate Thick Turret tooling is commonly used for carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Material thickness and the type of application influence the choice of clearance between punch and die (die clearance) — a parameter we settle together when ordering.
How to confirm compatibility quickly
To identify the correct tooling you need three pieces of information:
- The make and model of the machine (e.g. Amada EM, Euromac, Prima Power).
- The turret standard — Thick Turret or Trumpf.
- The station you want to work on (A–E) and the shape you need.
