Industrial presses and joining systems — TOX PRESSOTECHNIK
TOX PRESSOTECHNIK is a German manufacturer of hydraulic and pneumo-hydraulic presses, drive systems and joining solutions for industrial production. The range covers pressing forces from 2 kN (benchtop presses) up to 2,000 kN for complex industrial applications. Lang & Sin is TOX's exclusive representative in Romania.
About TOX PRESSOTECHNIK
TOX PRESSOTECHNIK was founded in 1978 and, more than four decades later, remains a 100% family-owned company, now in its second generation of leadership. The TOX Group has more than 1,500 employees and subsidiaries around the world.
The "TOX point" is the company's own name for the cold press-joining technology it developed, and it's closely associated, across the industry, with clinching done on TOX equipment.
TOX press frames
C-frames and column presses for integration into machines, transfer equipment or robots, or as standalone presses. Forces from 10 to 2,000 kN.
On its own special-machines page, TOX gives these application examples built on these frames: a manual connector-pressing workstation, an assembly press for motorcycle components, a solid-rivet press-fitting system, shock-absorber punching, and busbar contacting on alloy or dissimilar-material combinations. The frame is the same part in every case — what changes is the drive mounted on it and the tool.

Benchtop presses
Manual and semi-automatic presses for industrial workbenches. For the FinePress line, TOX explicitly names these operations: assembly, crimping, punching, stamping, and coining, including on high-strength metals. The ram's linear guide is designed for minimum friction, so process repeatability doesn't depend on adjusting the guide rail's preload.

TOX tongs
Tongs for robots, machines and manual use. A TOX tong is built from four interchangeable blocks: the tool, the arm (C-type for robots, compact for machine integration, miniature for handheld tongs), the drive, and the mounting accessories. The operations TOX covers with them are clinch joining, riveting, pressing functional elements, press-fit assembly, punching and piercing, and marking and embossing.
Robot and Machine Tongs Robot-arm or line-station mount · 45–92 kN force · throat depth up to 450 mm
The Powerpackage RZ drive doubles as the tong structure — no additional guide or carriage needed for the tooling.

TOX joining tools
Mechanical joining technologies that need no filler material (no screws, no conventional rivets, no welds).
The materials covered are steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and copper, up to an 800 N/mm² tensile strength, from individual sheet thicknesses of 0.1 mm. The industries TOX names for clinching are appliances, electrical assemblies, electronics, precision mechanics, and automotive. The argument against spot welding stays the same: no heat input, so no spatter and no heat-affected zone, with lower investment and operating cost. TOX also cites a University of Paderborn study finding that clinching's CO₂ footprint is lower than spot welding's.

Round Joint Diameter 1.5–26 mm · a 2 mm miniature variant for miniaturized components · non-destructive verification via dimension X
TOX's standard clinching technology — a rigid round die, fixed or with movable segments.
Specificații 8 specificații
- Principle
- as a general rule, the larger the point diameter, the greater the joint strength
- Available diameter
-
- 1.5–26 mm
- special lengths available at 30, 40, 50, 80, 100 mm
- Miniature variant
- 2 mm diameter — for component miniaturization, ideal for sheet thicknesses 0.1–1.2 mm
- Combined sheet thickness covered
-
- 0.3–1.4 mm at Ø2 mm point
- 1.0–3.0 mm at Ø6 mm point
- 1.6–6.0 mm at Ø8 mm point
- 4.5–11.0 mm at Ø12 mm point
- Sheet-pairing rule
-
- hard material on the punch side, soft material on the die side
- thick sheet on the punch side, thin sheet on the die side
- recommended thickness ratio: t1 (punch side) ≈ 2.5–3.0 × t2 (die side)
- Joint strength, examples from TOX test tables
-
- DC01 + DC01, 3.00 + 2.00 mm, Ø12 point: 7,800 N shear, 6,100 N tensile, 98 kN press force
- 1.4401 + 1.4401 (stainless), 2.50 + 1.25 mm, Ø10 point: 8,500 N shear, 4,400 N tensile, 105 kN press force

- S420MC + DC04 (sheets of different strength grades), 4.00 + 1.25 mm, Ø12 point: 10,000 N shear, 5,400 N tensile, 125 kN press force
- Die body variants
-
- stepped — for difficult accessibility (C-profiles, U-profiles, angled sheets)
- flat — reaches tight corners, produces small seam widths
- Quality verification
- non-destructive, by measuring control dimension X (remaining bottom thickness), tolerance ±15%
Unlike spot welding, where durability is usually tested destructively (chisel test), a TOX joint is verified without damaging the part — only dimension X is measured. Maximum allowed tool tilt to the sheet surface: 3°, with slightly reduced joint strength beyond that. The four strength examples above are rows from a much larger TOX table of several hundred actually tested combinations, across steel, coated steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and dissimilar-material combinations. For your specific combination, the exact value comes from a TOX-Test Report.

SKB Die Diameter 5, 6, 8, 10 mm · 3–6 fixed and moving segments · suited for hybrid joining with an intermediate layer
A segmented die for complex applications — durability roughly double that of Round Joint on mild steel and aluminum.
Specificații 5 specificații
- Available diameter
- 5, 6, 8, 10 mm
- Construction
- 3–6 solid parts and moving segments
- Recommended use
-
- hybrid "clinching + gluing" joining with an intermediate layer
- high flexibility across sheet thicknesses — a few standard die types cover a wide application range
- Combined sheet thickness covered
-
- 0.4–2.5 mm at Ø6 mm point
- 0.6–5.0 mm at Ø8 mm point
- 1.0–6.0 mm at Ø10 mm point
- Installation tolerance
- maximum allowed tool tilt: 1° (stricter than Round Joint) — the flange must fully cover the die diameter
Even with some moving segments missing, the SKB die still produces a strong joint — process reliability is significantly increased compared to a die with only moving segments. Re-joining an already-formed point can destroy both the die and the joint.

TWINpoint Built-in anti-twist protection · excellent electrical conductivity · suited to slim flanges and limited installation space
The "2-in-1" solution — two joints formed in a single press stroke, with one set of tools.
Specificații 3 specificații
- Principle
- two joints formed from one stroke of the press, using one set of tools (punch and die)
- Stated goals
-
- improve productivity
- protect the joint against rotation (anti-twist device)
- significantly increase joint strength vs. a single point
- Suited to
- slim flanges and limited installation spaces
Confirmări suplimentare
- Electrical conductivity — excellent
TWINpoint tools are secured against rotating by default — the flange surface, parallel to the pin/cavity axis, prevents the tool from rotating in the tool holder. Confirmed physically in TOX's accessories catalog (scule-imbinare-accesorii.pdf): types from TOX 210.180 through TOX 218.220 (punch) and TOX 210.160 through TOX 226.220 (die).
eClinching Four variants — eRound point, eMICROpoint, eTWINpoint, eVario point · conductivity through numerous metallic micro-contacts
TOX's extended clinching generation — mechanically strong and electrically conductive, developed for battery and automotive electrical components.
Specificații 4 specificații
- Principle
-
- a punch presses the sheets to be joined into a die, creating an undercut through plastic deformation
- the increased contact surface at the joining point creates numerous metallic micro-contacts — durable electrical conductivity, alongside mechanical strength
- Problem solved
- connections where both mechanical stability and electrical conductivity matter — battery, automotive, and electrical-component applications
- Maintains conductivity
- even through soft coatings (e.g. tin on copper), at just a few µm thickness, without prior stripping
- Applications named by TOX
-
- battery cell connections
- aluminum-to-copper joining
- busbar connections
- electronic component assembly
- fuse boxes, Li-ion battery control boxes, auxiliary heaters
TOX also offers THETA® Clinching — a newer, laser-assisted technology for materials that resist conventional mechanical clinching (ultra-high-strength steels, low-ductility die-cast aluminum alloys). The equipment works with or without the laser step. Availability through Lang & Sin for the Romanian market still needs separate confirmation — it isn't part of the standard offering yet.
Variante 4 variante
eRound point

For high-strength and non-metallic materials.
How a TOX joint is verified — the Test Report
Every material and thickness combination gets its own TOX-Test Report, produced by the TOX lab from a sample of your material. The report sets the die size, pressing force, and the control dimension X, the remaining thickness at the base of the joint, which correlates with the joint's shear and pull-load strength.
Unlike spot welding, where strength is usually verified destructively (a chisel test), a TOX joint's quality is checked non-destructively: only dimension X is measured, within a ±15% tolerance. Coated materials, dissimilar combinations (steel with aluminum, for example), and joints with an intermediate layer (adhesive, foil, textile) are all covered by the technology: the lab test confirms the exact parameters for your combination.
TOX drive systems
Pneumo-hydraulic cylinders and ElectricDrive electro-mechanical systems. The industries TOX names for the pneumohydraulic drives are automotive, medical, and general industry, and the typical operations are pressing, joining, and assembly: clinching, fastener insertion, compacting, bending, forming, crimping, mounting, and testing. A Powerpackage cycle has three phases — a fast pneumatic approach, a power stroke generated by the hydraulic intensifier (up to 400 bar in the high-pressure chamber), and a return stroke — which is why the same unit delivers both travel speed and controlled force at contact.

A cleanroom variant is also available (EXe-K Cleanroom, same 0.1–200 kN/300 mm/s range) — relevant for customers in electronics, medical, or semiconductor manufacturing. A motor holding brake prevents the ram from dropping when power is disconnected.
De reținut: Above a certain tool weight, the ram can drift down on its own when power is disconnected unless the motor holding brake is fitted. The maximum tool weight allowed without the brake depends on the force class and is confirmed at order time, together with the configuration.

EQe-K — cost-efficient
0.02–100 kN, max. speed 300 mm/s — the cost-efficient variant.
EXe-L — heavy-duty
3–1,000 kN, max. speed 90 mm/s — the force specialist of the line, for heavy pressing applications.
Control and monitoring
Control units and systems for monitoring the pressing process. The two roles are different. Control units (STP, STE) start and stop the cylinder under safe conditions and comply with the European standard EN 13736 for pneumatic presses. Monitoring units (CEP, EPW) don't control anything — they measure what happened on each part and issue a pass/fail verdict. The processes for which TOX explicitly names force-displacement monitoring are joining, riveting, press-fitting, and caulking.

From simple pneumatic two-hand control up to fully programmable PLC control — one family, seven levels of complexity.
Specificații 7 specificații
- STP 03-11
- direct pneumatic two-hand control, without an added safety function
- STP 03-10
- pneumatic two-hand safety control, compliant with EN 574 — the base variant
- STE 075

- electric two-hand control with PLC — the most flexible and programmable in the range
- Criterion that decides the control level
-
- tool opening: below 6 mm, simple pneumatic control is permitted (STP 03-11); above 6 mm, EN 574-compliant two-hand safety control (STP 03-10) or mechanical guarding of the work area is required
- level of automation: on an automated line, the cycle signal comes from the customer's system (STE 075); at a manual station it comes from buttons or a foot pedal
- sequencing needs: fixed functions are covered by STE 325 or STE 336, a programmable sequence needs the PLC in STE 326 or STE 328
All TOX-Controls units include an air servicing unit and flow-control valves. Locking function: once the cylinder enters the power stroke and the "tool closed" sensor confirms, the buttons can be released — the cylinder develops the preset pressure and retracts automatically. Safety note: on air-pressure loss, the working rod will NOT retract and could drift down slowly — relevant for tool design and operator training. All TOX-Controls units comply with the European standard EN 13736 for pneumatic presses. On electric two-hand controls, the cycle starts only if both buttons are pressed within 0.5 seconds of each other, and if one is released early, the cylinder retracts immediately. For tools with an opening above 6 mm, DIN EN 13736 requires fitting a "tool closed" sensor as a safeguard for the self-locking control, unless the work area is otherwise guarded.
CEP 600 — clinch process monitoring End-of-process force monitoring · 2–12 channels · color touchscreen, Ethernet and fieldbus interfaces
The automated, production-line version of the same control-dimension-X check used in TOX's own test report.
Specificații 4 specificații
- Function
- monitors clinching processes by measuring press force and cylinder displacement at the end of the stroke
- Measuring channels
- 2–12, simultaneously — a single CEP unit can monitor multiple stations/tools
- Interfaces
- Digital I/O, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, Profinet
- Measuring programs
- 64
CEP 600 automates in production exactly the "control dimension X" concept used by the TOX-Test Report described above in the Joining tools section — the test report establishes the target X value in the lab, CEP 600 verifies it automatically on every part, in-line.

EPW 500 is the monitoring unit explicitly recommended for the TOX-FinePress benchtop press line (KF/ZF/PF/PFH) — see the Benchtop presses section, where every series lists "pressing monitor connection" as an optional accessory.
How to send a request
Every pressing or joining application is different. The details below help us identify the right TOX solution quickly.
- 1 The materials to be joined, on each side (e.g. steel + aluminum), and whether they are coated, painted, or have an intermediate layer (adhesive, foil).
- 2 The thickness of each material.
- 3 The pressing force you need, if known, or the application (manual assembly, robot integration, or a production line).
- 4 For a firm quote: a sample of your material, for a TOX-Test Report, which sets the exact die, force, and control dimension X for your combination.
